Today as I was walking around the lake at lunch, I decided to challenge myself for this last 10 days of the contest. I am going to take 10,000 steps every day from now until March 31st.

When I got home from work Alyssa and I rode our bikes around the neighborhood. That didn’t exactly help me with my step goal but still good exercise! We went to Genghis for dinner and Mike got a birthday brownie for dessert.
When we got home I was only up to about 7,300 steps so I took a walk around the block a few times and I’m now at 9522. I’m pretty sure I will reach my goal of 10,000 today. :)
I have noticed in the last week or so I’ve been much more hungry than usual, but I’m eating practically the same thing every day. I wonder if this means my metabolism is getting higher? I have been quite a bit more active lately.
I had a Thai Turkey bowl at Genghis Grill, did some walking around the mall, then came home and did the elliptical for 30 minutes.
I switched my cell phone from a Blackberry to an Android today. I’ve been having fun with the Weight Watchers barcode scanner app. I can just scan a barcode on a food item and it pops up the number of points per serving. So cool! If you know of any other cool apps let me know!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my hubby Mike tomorrow! I love you and I couldn’t do this without your support! I think to celebrate we will go out to eat….at Genghis Grill! Ha ha.
Mike and I went to Genghis Grill tonight, and when we got in the car to leave he couldn’t find his car keys. We searched the car, I went back inside and searched around our table and it wasn’t there either. Then he found it in his back pocket. Not sure why he did that but I was beginning to wonder how we were getting home!
It’s been raining since I got home so I wasn’t able to do anything outside. I should have walked at lunch or done my elliptical but I didn’t. :( Guess I will have to work extra hard tomorrow. Hopefully the rain cools things off so it’s more like spring instead of summer!
Alyssa and I took a bike ride on the trail again but we both had sore butts and legs so we didn’t go as far. It was also really HOT. It’s hard to believe that the calendar still says winter yet we’re wearing shorts and running the air conditioner. It is supposed to cool off this week which I think will make bike riding more pleasant.
I had my bowl to go tonight, it was what I call my pizza bowl.
I’m not ready for tomorrow to be be Monday already!
Today Alyssa and I took our bikes up to the bike trail that goes through town. We rode about 4.5 miles. I could have gone more but it was pretty warm out and Alyssa was having trouble getting the gears to change on her bike and couldn’t get up hills.
We had dinner at Genghis Grill and I decided to celebrate by having a drink. It wasn’t green though. I can’t remember the exact name of it, Raspberry something. I bought the souvenir glass to so I would have a memento of the Health Kwest.

After dinner we decided to ride around the neighborhood and stopped at my parents’ house. Alyssa tried out one of my sister’s old bikes and liked it much better than hers, so we’re going to try the trail again tomorrow and see if she has an easier time. I think we rode about 7.5 miles total today.
I also ordered a Walky Dog to attach to my bike so I can take a dog with me when I ride. I just hope winter doesn’t decide to make another appearance this year.
It’s been a busy and crazy day! I had my beef with pineapple and onion (aka mongolian beef) bowl again tonight. Yummy! Took a quick ride around the block on my bike, but tomorrow I plan on putting some miles on it. TGIF!!!
I can’t believe there are less than 2 weeks until the end of this experience! It’s not the end of my journey though!
I bought a bike today. It has a nice big comfy seat. Alyssa I rode around the neighborhood for almost an hour and I couldn’t believe that my butt wasn’t in pain! I LOVE this bike! I can’t wait to go out again tomorrow!
It is nothing fancy and didn’t cost a lot but I can ride it so I’m happy with it. If I ever do end up doing Ragbrai I’ll probably have to get something a little better but this is great for just riding around the neighborhood with Alyssa.
I mapped out our route and we rode about 3 miles. The first 2 or 3 blocks I was pretty shaky. I can recall 2 times in the last 20+ years that I have been on a bike. It’s true though, you never forget! By the time we got up to the school 4 blocks away I was doing pretty well. I even made it up a few small hills.
After our ride Alyssa and I went out to Genghis for supper. All that riding made us hungry! Here’s what I had:

- How do you lose weight eating there? Lots of veggies, lean meats, and either brown rice or no starch. No dessert. Water to drink. I limit myself to one bowl. And I track everything I eat.

My friend Susie and I walked at lunch today. We walked around the lake 3 times which is 1.5 miles.
It wasn’t as warm out as I thought it would be, and it was a bit windy but it was still beautiful out! I wanted to go for another walk when I got home but it got late so I didn’t. My Fitbit shows me at 9605 steps for the day so I’m going to hop on the elliptical to get to 10k and go to bed. I think that will be a new record high for me for a weekday.

I got my bowl to go again tonight for the 2nd night in a row and I miss eating there, although my bowl tonight was awesome. I had one of the Genghis recipes, the Thai Chicken with one little change: pineapple, of course! Oh and also brown rice instead of udon noodles.
I had some things to do for the dog rescue I volunteer for and when I got home, even though it was almost dark, it was still really warm out so Alyssa and I went for a walk with Shadow. Right now I have 9229 steps in, which I think is the most I’ve ever had on a weekday. My legs still hurt every time I go walking. It will get easier, right?
Tomorrow it is supposed to be almost 80 degrees out. A friend at work and I are going to walk on the trail around the lake behind our building at lunch tomorrow. It’s going to be hard to go back to work after that! I am loving this weather, I wish it was like this all year.
I got this picture from a friend’s Facebook of the lake at my office building. Obviously the snow is all gone, but I couldn’t find a spring picture. If I remember I’ll take one tomorrow. There is a sidewalk that goes around it, I think 2 1/2 laps is a mile. Usually there are about a million geese out there too. That wind turbine is MUCH bigger than it appears.

I got carry out from GG on my way home from work and ended up eating earlier than usual. So now it’s 10 pm and I’m hungry, so I’m eating beans. Alyssa didn’t work me as hard as usual, although we did go for a walk and shoot some hoops.
I’m watching the forecast right now and it looks like a beautiful week is ahead. Should be lots of chances for getting outside and being active!
